Rohan D’souza was born in 1992 in Mumbai and raised therein, came out to sea in 2012 as a Deck Cadet with Fleet Management Limited after completing his DNS Course from TS Chanakya. After obtaining his 2nd Mate COC in 2015, he continued with the same company sailing on Chemical Tankers as a Junior Officer and in the process also obtained his degree in BSc in Nautical Science from Indian Maritime University. In 2018, he obtained his First Mate COC and joined as a Chief Officer in 2019. In 2021, he obtained his Master (FG) COC and soon dreams to be in command of a ship.
Rohan cleared all his written and oral exams in the first attempt from Mumbai MMD, except his ASM Orals for which he required a second attempt. He believes this was needed for him to know the taste of failure. He did not get discouraged and prepared even more for the next attempt and had an impressive oral exam.
Rohan's biggest achievements include acquiring the first rank in his school in the 10thBoard Exam. Apart from this, he also stood first all over India in the Chief Mate Phase 1 written exams and repeated the same in the Chief Mate Phase 2 written exam. Luckily, during that time, MMD had started displaying the marks along with the exam result.
He has a sheer passion for teaching for which he has completed the VICT course which is made mandatory by DGS for teaching in any maritime institute. He will soon start teaching as a visiting faculty.
He started making notes only for himself so that he can use them to prepare for the MMD exams. Throughout his career, he believed that he could study better from his custom-made notes. Many batchmates wanted the notes because of their sheer simplicity and neatness. He freely shared his notes with others who wanted them. Later with the dawn of the digital age, he realized that notes in printed form are much better than hand-written ones. Many of his Chief Mate Phase II notes were circulated all over India and many candidates from various States have messaged him, thanking him for the notes.
While he was happy that his notes were freely circulated and helping many aspiring candidates, he also became concerned about a few websites selling his notes in digital format. After sending notices to these website owners and taking down his notes, he thought of helping society with his hard work by selling his notes on his website and contributing all the money so received to charitable organizations. Yes, every penny you spend on his website is going towards a noble cause. This is why he requests everyone to buy the notes online and not share them with others for free.
To support the cause, do promote his website among your friends in the same field. If you like his work, do give him your valuable feedback on his website. You can also suggest corrections or ask him questions on his website.
